White-tailed Antelope Squirrel Images, Facts and Information:

Ammospermophilus leucurus

  • White-tailed Antelope Squirrels have small, rounded ears, brown to gray backs with two white stripes that run from their shoulders to their hind ends, whitish bellies and chests, dark eyes, legs are reddish on the outside and the underside of their tails are white.
  • White-tailed Antelope Squirrels can be found from southwestern Oregon south to New Mexico, and east to west from western Colorado to Baja California, Mexico in arid deserts and foothills. Within those habitats they prefer wash areas, desert succulent shrub, riparian, chaparrals and grasslands.
  • White-tailed Antelope Squirrels eat green vegetation, seeds, fruits, berries, nuts, roots, small vertebrates, insects and carrion.
  • White-tailed Antelope Squirrels generally have 5 to 14 young per litter, on average that number is 8. They usually have one litter per year  although they can have two.
  • Average lifespan is not known.
