Variegated Meadowhawk Dragonfly Images, Facts and Information:
Sympetrum corruptum
- Variegated Meadowhawk dragonflies are medium-sized, distinctively marked, migratory dragonflies. The male dragonfly is commonly dark brownish black with an abdomen of bright red, pink, and golden brown. The thorax may be marked with a pair of yellow dots on each side. The females are similar but not as brightly colored, with gray and yellow replacing the red of the male. Young Variegated Meadowhawks are much paler and mottled with pale green, pale yellow, golden brown.
- Variegated Meadowhawk are migratory dragonflies. They leave winter areas of southwest U.S. in spring and fly to northern States to breed.
- Variegated Meadowhawk dragonflies are found from British Columbia east to Ontario, extending south through much of the U.S. to southern California east to Florida.
