American Bison On The Tallgrass Prairie Of Oklahoma
The largest mammals I saw at the Joseph H. Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve in Oklahoma were herds upon herds of American Bison. There were so many bison!

This immature Harlan's Red-tailed Hawk is striking with those white polka dot spots on its back, I don't think I have ever seen a young Red-tail where the white spots on the scapulars are so pronounced.
I was glad to focus on the Black-crowned Night Herons I saw that morning because of late I have seen fewer of them than I have on past years which has meant fewer opportunities to photograph them.
I am intrigued by how these herons evolved to have long necks that give them the ability to make lightning fast strikes at their prey some distance from their bodies.
