Even though this adult Cedar Waxwing is small in the frame because I photographed it from quite a distance it is one of my favorite images taken in the Wasatch Mountains four days ago.

By |May 16th, 2018|Categories: Birds, East Canyon, Morgan County, Utah, Yellow Warblers|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

When I had the opportunity to photograph a Yellow Warbler foraging in a flowering tree I jumped at the chance. Right after I took this photo the warbler snatched a tiny insect from the flowers but I couldn't make out what it was.

By |May 3rd, 2018|Categories: Birds, Green-tailed Towhees, Morgan County, Utah|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Green-tailed Towhees are migratory so I don't see them year round in Utah like I do their close relatives the Spotted Towhees. Green-tailed Towhees spend their winters in the southern most parts of the U.S. and in Mexico and I miss seeing a hearing them while they are away.

When it comes to small birds like Yellow-rumped Warblers I prefer photographing them in clean habitats over cluttered habitats because the small birds stand out better when the background isn't so messy.

By |April 20th, 2018|Categories: Antelope Island State Park, Birds, Box Elder County, Davis County, Utah, Western Kingbirds|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

I did see a Western Kingbird two days ago but the only photos I have of that bird were taken on a barbed wire fence and I have more of those type of images than I know what to do with and nothing about those images were appealing, unique or all that interesting.

I was only able to photograph one of the Dark-eyed Juncos I saw yesterday because it was the only one that stayed still long enough for me to raise my lens, focus and fire my shutter button, the rest were way too skittish.
