Cooperative Vesper Sparrow in Montana
Five evenings ago I was able to photograph a cooperative Vesper Sparrow in Montana's Centennial Valley.

The heat of summer has turned the green grasses brown on Antelope Island State Park so I thought I'd share some of the "brown birds" I photographed there yesterday.
There are two subspecies of Willets in North America and during the breeding season in Utah the birds we see are the Western subspecies.
It was nice to photograph this Northern Mockingbird singing in between the clouds and rain yesterday on Antelope Island State Park.
Personally, I love to see American Robins any time of the year and to watch them searching for prey. Common? Yes, but delightful too.
This male Red-winged Blackbird was photographed yesterday at Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area.
When I lived in Florida I saw Northern Mockingbirds all the time but they are not so common here in Utah and typically I only see a pair or two during the whole breeding season.
I have enjoyed photographing Lazuli Buntings (Passerina amoena) near the San Rafael River at the San Rafael Swell Recreation Area. These images were taken in the spring when the males were high on perches singing to attract females.
This bird is easily identifiable as a juvenile Common Raven because of the short tail, the pink on the gape and the violet-blue eyes.
This is the third consecutive year that I have photographed Black-billed Magpies working on their nest in this same location on Antelope Island.
It was real slow for bird photography out on Antelope Island this morning but I did get a nice lift off shot from this Western Meadowlark.
Male Lazuli Buntings resemble bluebirds but they are smaller and the blues are a different hue than the Mountain, Eastern and Western Bluebirds.
If I had not been paying attention to the first magpie's activity and behavior I would have missed the opportunity to photograph these birds and their nesting habits over the next several weeks.
