The last time I visited Bear River MBR, I took quite a few photos of Wilson's Snipes. I also wondered what the new name for this snipe species will soon be.
It was announced by the American Ornithological Society today that the organization is committed to changing all English-language names of birds within its geographic jurisdiction that are named directly after people.
A few more changes in the Fifty-Eighth Supplement to the AOS Check-list have to do with dabbling ducks and "white geese".
Just because Willets weren't split this year doesn't mean they won't be split in the future, who knows what changes will be made a year from now.
