• Ring-necked Pheasants were introduced to the U.S. from Asia in the 1880’s as a game bird.
• Male Ring-necked Pheasants are brightly colored with copper, red, blue-green and gold plumage while the females are brown and blend into their habitat well.
• Breeding males will keep other males away from their small group of females during the breeding season by using a practice called “harem-defense polygyny”.
• A group of pheasants are called a “brace”, “plume”, “plump”, “trip” and “bouquet” of pheasants.
• Preferred habitat includes pastures, farmlands, marshes,  and agricultural fields.
• Clutch size is between 10 to 12 and eggs take 23 – 25 days to hatch.
• Ring-necked Pheasants are primarily seed eaters but in the spring and summer will eat insects and other arthropods.
• Ring-necked Pheasants are not migratory.
• Ring-necked Pheasants live about 4 years.
