Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge Images and Information:
- Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge was established on April 22, 1935 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
- The refuge is 51,386 acres in size with an additional 23,806 acres managed for conservation easements.
- The Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in located in the Centennial Valley of Beaverhead County in southwestern Montana. The refuge is very remote.
- The refuge is primarily high mountain, wetland, riparian habitat including wet meadows, marshes, grasslands, willow riparian and forests.
- Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge was critically important in reestablishing the population of Trumpeter Swans in North America. In 1932 some of the last remaining Trumpeter Swans were found nesting in the Centennial Valley and the refuge was in part established to protect the Trumpeter Swans. Today the population of Trumpeter Swans has recovered.
- Large and small mammals, birds, fish and other wildlife are abundant on the refuge.
