- Red Crossbills are medium sized finches. Male Red Crossbills have red to orange bodies, bright red rumps and dark brown wings, Female Red Crossbills have yellow-orange crowns and rumps with olive-green bodies. Both sexes have crossed bills.
- Red Crossbills are non-migratory.
- Preferred habitats include coniferous forests.
- Red Crossbills eat seeds, buds, and insects.
- Red Crossbills lay 3 to 4 eggs which hatch in 12 to 18 days.The females incubate and they are monogamous.
- A group of crossbills can be called a “warp” or “crookedness” of crossbills.
- Red Crossbills can live to be at least 8 years of age.
