- Red Admiral butterflies have dark uppersides with white spots near the tips of their forewings, forewings have a red to orange median band, hindwings have a red marginal band.
- Red Admiral butterflies are found throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and some Caribbean islands. They are migratory in the northern parts of their range.
- Red Admiral butterfly adults prefer to feed on fermenting fruits, bird droppings and sap flows of trees. They will nectar on flowers when those three items are unavailable.
- Red Admiral butterflies prefer habitats that include seeps, marshes, moist fields and woods, yards and parks. During migration they can be found in practically any habitat within their range.
- Host plants for Red Admiral butterfly caterpillars include plants in the nettle family and false nettles.
