The Stories Behind My Images
Close Up Rock Squirrel At Home Yesterday
Yesterday, during a light rain, I looked out of my living room window, and to my surprise, I had a close-up view of a Rock Squirrel right next to the house.
Female House Finch In Sunflowers Gone To Seed
I was tickled to photograph this female House Finch last week in sunflowers that had gone to seed. I liked the finch, the autumn colors, and the morning light.
Killdeer On A Boat Ramp
Last week, I photographed this Killdeer on a boat ramp at Farmington Bay WMA. It's such a simple image, and that's probably why I like it so much.
Autumn Savannah Sparrow
When I was at Farmington Bay WMA earlier this week, I was enchanted by this Savannah Sparrow perched in lacy-looking phrags, out on the marsh.
Fall Great Blue Heron Flasher
Earlier this week, I found this adult Great Blue Heron in a Flasher pose while resting on a human-made nest in a pond at Farmington Bay WMA in northern Utah.
Male Lesser Goldfinch Under A Leafy Umbrella
Having fast reflexes and being able to stop my Jeep quickly helped me photograph this male Lesser Goldfinch under a leafy umbrella three days ago.
The Stories Behind My Images
What Happened To Winter In The Salt Lake Valley?
It is almost the end of February and I'm wondering what happened to winter this year in the Salt Lake Valley. Has winter gone on walkabout? Where is the snow?
Tundra Swan – Trumpeter Swan Comparison
I hope this comparison helps anyone who might be struggling with Trumpeter Swan and Tundra Swan identification in the field or when they are looking at their own photos.
Black-billed Magpie With Nesting Materials
It was my first full spring in Utah, nearly 14 years ago, when my keen eyes were used to find my first Black-billed Magpie nest on Antelope Island State Park.
My Video With A Surprise Great Blue Heron
On my last trip up to Bear River MBR, I stopped to take a video on the auto tour loop, and a Great Blue Heron surprised me by flying into view over the river.
