Mountain Cottontail Images, Facts and Information:
Sylvilagus nuttallii
- Mountain Cottontails are small rabbits with long hind legs, relatively short ears, have pale brown fur and pale brown napes and their feet are covered with hair.
- Mountain Cottontails are found from just above the Canada – U.S. border south to New Mexico and Arizona and the Intermountain West.
- Mountain Cottontails eat grasses and some shrubs although during the winter months they will eat bark and twigs.
- Mountain Cottontails have litters of 4 to 6 kits. The breeding season is usually February through July.
- Mountain Cottontails are active all year long.
