Sayornis phoebe
- Eastern Phoebes are small songbirds with olive-brown upperparts, darker brown wings, and whitish underparts tinged with yellow. They have a slightly crested head and a dark bill.
- Eastern Phoebes are migratory birds that breed across eastern North America and winter in the southern United States, Mexico, and Central America. Eastern Phoebes prefer open woodlands, forest edges, parks, and areas near water sources like streams, ponds, and lakes. They often nest on human-made structures like bridges, barns, and buildings.
- Eastern Phoebes eat insects, including flies, bees, wasps, beetles, and moths, which they catch in mid-air or pick from vegetation.
- Eastern Phoebes lay 3 to 6 eggs which hatch in about 2 weeks. The female incubates and both parents feed the young.
- Eastern Phoebes are known for their distinctive call, which sounds like “fee-bee” or “fee-bee-ee”.
