Calliope Hummingbirds

Stellula calliope

Calliope Hummingbirds have short tails and wings that barely extend past their tails they are resting. The also have thin short bills for a hummingbird. Males have long, purple-red gorget feathers that look like streaks on a white background, metallic green upperparts and sides and white underparts. Females and juveniles have pale rufous flanks, green upperparts, white underparts and small dark spots on their throats.
