- Black Rosy-Finches are medium sized finches with black-brown breasts and backs, have a gray band on their heads and their belly, rump and wing patches are pink. Females look similar but are not as pink.
- Black Rosy-Finches are migratory within their range. Black Rosy-Finches breed in the Rocky Mountain areas of Colorado, Utah. Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. They spend winters in northern New Mexico and Arizona. Preferred habitat are alpine meadows and tundra during the breeding season and lowlands in winter.
- Black Rosy-Finches eat insects and invertebrates in spring and summer and seeds and plants during the fall and winter.
- Black Rosy-Finches lay 4 to 5 eggs which hatch in 12 to 14 days. Females incubate and they are monogamous.
- Groups of Rosy-Finches can be called a “bouquet”.
