Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge

Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge Images and Information:

• Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge was established on April 23, 1928 by President Herbert Hoover.
• The refuge contains nearly 80,000 acres of marshes, open water, alkali mudflats and uplands.
• Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is located in Box Elder County in northern Utah where the Bear River flows into the northeast arm of the Great Salt Lake. It is in the Great Basin hub of the Pacific Flyway which is important habitat for millions of migrating birds.
• There is a visitor center near I-15.
• Approximately 250 species of birds migrate through the area or nest on the refuge.
• Other animals that can be found there are mule deer, beavers, long-tailed weasels, skunks, muskrats, raccoons, voles, mice,  foxes, moths, butterflies, bees, spiders, dragonflies, damselflies, grasshoppers brine flies, midges, fish and more.
• The refuge has a 12 mile auto tour route that is self guided.
