  • American Badgers are short, squat and have huge claws, their coat is a mixture of browns, grays and whites and they have a distinctive black and white pattern to their faces.
  • American Badgers are Mustelids, a diverse group of carnivorous mammals.
  • American Badgers are found in West and Central North America and northern Mexico.
  • They prefer habitats the include open areas like those found in grasslands, prairies and sagebrush steppe. The can also be found in agricultural fields, parks, meadows and marshes.
  • Their diet includes gophers, ground squirrels, voles, marmots, weasels, prairie dogs, rats, mice, snakes, lizards, amphibians, skunks, insects, carrion and ground nesting birds and their eggs.
  • American Badgers have litters of between 1 to 5 cubs. Male badgers are called boars and the females are sows.
  • American Badgers live to between 9 to 10 years of age.
