Yesterday morning, in between storms, I sat outside and listened to bird songs. I decided to make a short recording and share photos of the birds I heard.

One of the first birds I heard was the call of a Carolina Chickadee—and I do love hearing these tiny black, white, and gray birds. I took this photo last April while she or he waited for their turn at the sunflower seeds.

The look the chickadee was giving me at that time still makes me smile.

I also heard American Robins yesterday while I made my recording. Some of the robins were still singing their predawn song. That song usually starts about 55 minutes to an hour before sunrise most spring mornings, and I really enjoy it.

This bathing robin was photographed in June of 2023 while I visited my dear friend Steve Creek and his wonder dog, Rosie, after being in Virginia to help my mother.

Towards the end of this recording, I can hear a scolding Blue Jay. It isn’t very loud because the jay wasn’t in the yard, but those calls got picked up too.

I photographed this Blue Jay last spring here in Arkansas. I can’t recall now why the jay was squawking—it may have simply been that another bird came in too close.

I’m pretty sure my recording from yesterday morning may have picked up a few other birds, but these were the three I heard clearly.

I hope you enjoy the recording and the photos of the birds I heard!

Life is good.
