Yesterday, I photographed Carolina Chickadees in a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. I’m sure many of you have seen A Charlie Brown Christmas and know the tree I mean.

Charlie Brown’s journey in A Charlie Brown Christmas is all about authenticity and the search for meaning amidst the chaos of the holiday season. Rather than focusing on a perfect Christmas tree, the story highlights Charlie’s struggle against commercialism and his desire for something real and meaningful.

My dear friend Steve Creek has a Charlie Brown Christmas tree, and we put it out in his garden, hoping some birds would land in it—and they did.

I don’t know if I photographed the same chickadee or several different ones in the tree.

What I do know is that I had fun photographing the chickadees in the Charlie Brown Christmas tree and that I laughed, smiled, and enjoyed myself. Life is too freaking short to be serious all the time, and the holiday season is meant to be enjoyed too.

Ultimately, A Charlie Brown Christmas teaches us that it’s okay to feel out of sync with the holiday spirit. It encourages us to embrace our true feelings and seek deeper connections with those around us. Just like Charlie Brown’s tree, we can find beauty in our imperfections and celebrate what makes us unique.

This holiday season, I’m taking a page from Charlie’s book and choosing authenticity over perfection and appreciating the simple joys that surround me, whether it’s through a humble tree or the cheerful chirping of chickadees.

Life is good.

Mia
