Bird activity was slow yesterday when this Spicebush Swallowtail flew in and landed on the grass nearby. I quickly stood up to photograph the swallowtail.

With temperatures getting cooler, I’m not sure how much longer I will have butterflies in my viewfinder this year, so I’m making the most of the chances I get with them.

I didn’t see these beautiful swallowtails while I lived in Utah, so I’m glad and grateful to be seeing them again.

This Spicebush Swallowtail didn’t stay long, but it was just enough time to take a few photos that I like.

Spicebush Swallowtails are primarily found in the Eastern United States, ranging from New England to Florida, and extending westward to the Great Plains.

They are more common in the southeastern states and inhabit deciduous woodlands, fields, gardens, and areas near streams and rivers. Their preferred habitats are those where their host plants, spicebush and sassafras, are abundant.

These Spicebush Swallowtail butterflies sure brighten my day.

Life is good.
