I’m seeing a few lizards in my yard here in Oklahoma including this spiffy looking racerunner lizard. I don’t know which species it is yet though.

When I saw this lizard I ran and grabbed my camera and leaned against the porch railing to steady it. I knew I probably wouldn’t have time to run to my Jeep and grab my tripod so I made do. It worked out too!

I’ve narrowed the identification down to two lizards found in this area. I believe it is either a Six-lined Racerunner, Aspidoscelis sexlineatus, or Prairie Racerunner, Aspidoscelis sexlineatus ssp. viridis. I’ve uploaded the image to iNaturalist and I hope that someone there helps me with this racerunner identification. I am personally leaning towards Six-lined Racerunner.

Note: My Six-lined Racerunner identification was confirmed on iNaturalist!

Yesterday, I saw another larger lizard that looked like this one only the green was more vivid. Love those green stripes!

Feel free to jump in with identification assistance if you can.

It is pretty neat seeing so much wildlife right outside the backdoor here. I suspect it is because the habitat includes lots of variation in native plants and isn’t a sterile monoculture type lawn.

At any rate, I am trying hard to learn about the new creatures I am seeing. It is time to unpack some of my guide books!

Life is good.
