At my friend Steve Creek’s home, I listen to a Northern Mockingbird sing around the clock. The mockingbird sings practically all the time, day and night.

If I wake up at 12:30 a.m., the mockingbird is singing. When I get up around 3 a.m., it is still singing. Then, it sings all day long. The constant singing of this mockingbird doesn’t bother me a bit. Some people might get grouchy about it, but I don’t. I love hearing it. It is a wonderful sound to wake up to.

Last year when I visited Steve, I didn’t get the Northern Mockingbird photos I had hoped for. This year, I certainly am. Up close, from a distance, in lovely light, and at a birdbath. It has been terrific to have this mimid in my viewfinder again.

Listening to this bird species is a joy, photographing them is even more joyful. Northern Mockingbirds are a species I recall from my childhood as fun to watch and hear. I hope I will be able to take more photos of this mockingbird soon. Maybe even take a video. Who knows?

Life is good.
