Yesterday morning, I could tell there was going to be some vibrant color in the sunrise over the Wasatch Mountains, so I drove down to my local pond to take photos.

I took my Nikon D810 with a 18-200mm lens attached which allowed me to zoom in for this image. The clouds close to the tops of the Wasatch Mountains positively glowed.
I didn’t realize that I had also photographed birds flying in the sky until I got home and viewed this file on my laptop. The birds might be starlings or pigeons, I am not sure.

Then I zoomed out so that I could photograph the pond in the foreground, more of the mountains, and a wider expanse of the sunrise and sky. Some snow can be seen on the peaks of the mountains.

Finally, I zoomed back in a bit because I wanted to show more of the fire in the sky over the mountain peaks.
The sunrise colors didn’t last long yesterday morning, but they were beautiful. I’m glad that I drove down to my local pond to take these images. Sunrise and sunsets can be especially vibrant at this time of the year, and I thoroughly enjoy photographing them.
This morning, as I write this, it is raining. It isn’t cold enough to snow down in the valley, but it might be at higher elevations. The sunrise this morning isn’t likely to be as colorful as it was yesterday. I’ll be watching for more glowing sunrises and sunsets over the Wasatch Mountains this month.
Life is good.

Stunning pics! What a great way to start your morning and what a great way to start ours. Thanks Mia.
Gorgeous shots! I especially like the birds in the first one. I’m rarely up early enough to see the sunrise these days, but am fortunate to be near enough to the coast to see some pretty spectacular sunsets.
Truly beautiful. Our sunrises are usually MUCH more muted than that. And this morning’s was no exception.
Beautiful! Unfortunately where I live I cant see either very well. Old big trees and land topography just don’t lend to good views. I should drive over to Sugarhouse Park one morning for the sunrise and reflection on the water. Before the pandemic Eric’s work schedule was earlier, after dropping him off downtown I would swing by Sugarhouse Park and drink coffee with the sunrise. I should revisit this morning ritual and add a walk around the park.
Beautiful work
Beautiful shots Mia, occasional landscapes are great!
These shots remind me of ineffable bracing mornings in the mountains. WOW!
