Today is a milestone day for me. I’m celebrating the fact that I have shared 3000 daily posts here at On The Wing Photography in a row.
Male Williamson’s Sapsucker in an Idaho forest
That is eight years and two and a half months of sharing my photos of birds, wildlife, and nature, along with the stories behind the images, without a break.
I went back into my files to see what I was photographing on the day that I missed publishing a post and noticed that I was out in the wilderness of Idaho and Montana. The bird I photographed the most that day was this male Williamson’s Sapsucker at a fantastic nesting aspen. The aspen had several nesting cavities in it.

I had a terrific time photographing the nesting sapsuckers, nuthatches, bluebirds, and flickers at that tree that morning.
My posting streak was broken that day because I didn’t have a strong enough signal to write and publish anything. However, I’m not sorry to have been out in the wilderness, seeing, hearing, and savoring the birds, wildlife, and scenery I experienced that day.
I’m not sure how long I will keep up this writing and publishing streak, but today, just thinking about the number of words in the stories I have written and the photos I have shared over a 3000-day period, just boggles my brain!
Thanks for sharing this milestone with me. Even though I have been journaling my adventures since early 2010 I am still pretty amazed at this publishing streak.
Life is good.

Congratulations on this huge milestone Mia! Your dedication is admirable and we so appreciate it!
HUGE congratulations. And heartfelt thanks.
Phenomenal! Both the milestone and the QUALITY of your posts. Huge congrats, Mia!💜💜💜
Great work, Mia, it’s been a treat to find you in my in box over the years. I have learned so much and continue to marvel at the world you open up for all of us.
Thank you
Stephen
Congratulations, Mia! Well done! I have learned so much from you posts. Thank you!
Very much appreciate these nature stops, updates on places I haven’t visited in many years.
So, Mia, how many days would it be if you didn’t have that one day break, due to lack of a signal [which shows that you were deep into nature, and that’s what counts!]?
Sue, I checked and it would have been 3131 days in a row, on January 22, 2015 I wasn’t able to post because my site’s server was down.
And before that it was between August 12, 2013 and August 21st when I couldn’t post because I was moving my site from an old server to a new one.
Congratulations to you for all your pictures and posts you have made over the years almost every day! I sure could not keep up with all the boggling every day. Many times I would not have felt up to getting out and looking for something to take a photo for the day. I would understand you need to have free time to just sit back and watch the world go by. Thank you.
3000 days is staggering! How long has “ONTHEWINGPOTOGRAPHY” been in existence?
LOL. PHOTOGRAPHY. I think POTOGRAPHY is a cannabis website.
15 years Derek. Before that I had another domain name which for the life of me I can not recall.
In this time of turmoil that we live in, your posts are a calming, informative, entertaining daily ritual for me. And I’m sure for many others!!
Thank you!
Your dedication is remarkable. What a wonderful gift you’ve been giving to all of us. Thanks!!!
Happy to be one of your readers/viewers! Thank you for your posts; I have enjoyed seeing the photos and reading your comments whether about the photos or other issues that concern you, e.g. crow shooting, Great Salt Lake, etc. I have learned much
from you and for that I thank you. I hope your enthusiasm and love of the natural world, birds, bees, flowers, trees continues unabated. In the natural world is our salvation.
Congratulations and keep them coming.
