This is the same young Barred Owl that I shared in my post yesterday which was photographed at Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma.
Young Barred Owl in a road – Canon R7, f8, 1/640, ISO 12800, +1.3 EV, Canon RF 100-500 mm at 500m, natural light, not baited
The photo above was taken prior to the image I shared yesterday and before it pounced on the crawdad. The fledgling Barred Owl landed in the road at the refuge and looked directly at Steve and I sitting in his pickup. It parallaxed several times before it flew up into a dead tree near one of its parents.
The story of photographing this young owl will be continued another day. For now I just loved the look Steve and I were getting from this young Barred Owl and wanted to share it today. Those ebony-colored eyes are mesmerizing. I couldn’t resist them if I tried.
Life is good.

Poor little guy. Looks like a candidate for the lonely hearts club. It’s nice to know, however, that mom was close by preparing his first hunting lesson. Cool pic. Thanks Mia.
I wouldn’t even try and resist this charmer. And would fail if I did.
gave you two the stink eye…great photo, love the expression
These are beautiful images of the owl. So happy you are getting out and exploring! I am out in areas of Idaho where we don’t have much reception but we wake to calling Sandhill Cranes, nighthawks and kingbirds. There are numerous nesting Swainson’s in the mile around our home base. Who can complain about reception with all of nature enriching our lives?
What a fabulous “owldventure” you and Steve had with this little owl family! I’m sure I would have applauded and whooped and hollered when the youngster figured out how to pounce on the crawdad (probably a good thing I wasn’t with you 😂).
