Today’s post is about a quiet moment of serenity along the river when I needed a strong but soothing dose of nature. I’ve always felt connected to water and this river soothed my spirit.

It might seem kind of odd for me to be connected so deeply to water since my father died in the water. But the truth is that I feel disconnected when I’m not around some kind of source of good old h2o.
I have been going through some difficulties lately that I don’t want to really get into today. A few minutes of serenity along a river yesterday sure seemed to help my spirits. I even did a video of the river that I hope to post sometime later.
Listening to the water lapping against the shoreline and hearing the birds calling overhead helped to soothe me. The tang of salt, the breeze plus the clouds in the distance helped too.
I’m OK, truly I am. This is another season and a cycle of my life and I’m going through some stuff like all of us do.
Life is good.
Mia
Great pic. Life sure has bumps in the road doesn’t it? I think those of us who love and value all things in nature understand your feelings. Lakes, rivers, streams, a gentle rain and the deep blue sea seem to help iron out the wrinkles in the fabric of life. Just as an aside, John Muir disliked the word “hike” and used the term “saunter” to describe how he approached a walk in the woods. It is encouraging to know that your saunter along the river helped you push through your pain. It’s a wonderful message. Thanks Mia.
BTW – Tim+Traver: Thanks for the Wendell Berry quote. It’s perfect.
Glad you are able to find a place of respite. Sending lots of love. 💕
Every day you bring your readers beauty, joy, and peace and support in our personal struggles. Today I wish you Mia, peace, good heath and the joy that you bring others. Blessings from Ottawa, Canada
Wendell Berry: The Peace of the Wild Things
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
Thank you for this 😘
Water is our way of staying connected with all that is. I am glad you are taking care of yourself.
Nature is so often solace and heart balm.
I hope that your current difficulties can be put well behind you.
Thank you for sharing your experience, Mia. It’s wonderful to hear that you found solace and tranquility by the river. Water has a unique way of soothing our spirits and connecting us with nature. It’s understandable to have a deep connection with water despite the painful loss of your father. Sometimes being near a source of water can bring a sense of peace and grounding. I’m glad to hear that the serenity of the river and the surrounding sounds and sights provided you with a much-needed respite. Remember, we all go through difficulties in life, but finding moments of peace and embracing the cycles can help us navigate those challenges. Take care, and may you find more moments of serenity and joy along your journey.
