I am completely unable to resist taking baby Uinta Ground Squirrel photos. These babies are simply that appealing to me, no matter where I find them.
Baby Uinta Ground Squirrel in damp dirt – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/1600, ISO 400, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
Last year, while showing my good friend Steve Creek around some of my favorite locations in the Wasatch Mountains, we found this baby ground squirrel next to a damp dirt road.
Both of us had a grand time photographing this baby and other Uinta Ground Squirrels that we found together.
Birds are my primary subject, but I enjoy photographing practically everything I find in nature. Steve is primarily a wildlife photographer, yet he also enjoys photographing what he finds in nature.
After all, what is there not to enjoy about nature? I sure love it all.
Life is good.

What incredible detail! I can count almost every hair on his [her?] brave little body. Thanks Mia.
I can well understand why you photographed this cutie – and I am grateful.
Adorable! I wonder if the road is open? I haven’t tried, it was closed for flooding. I might give it a try this weekend.
