A brief post this morning about a fluffed up male Black-chinned Hummingbird photographed in Morgan County high up in the Wasatch Mountains.
Fluffed up male Black-chinned Hummingbird in the mountains – Nikon D500, f6.3, 1/1250, ISO 400, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
I photographed this hummingbird last year with my friend and fellow photographer, Steve Creek, on the 2nd of June. We had this male all to ourselves and we both enjoyed having him in our viewfinders. The purple of his gorget never did show the iridescence well but that didn’t matter, too much.
I can’t recall if this was a lifer bird for Steve but his excitement about all the birds and wildlife we saw that day was contagious. I loved hearing the excitement in his voice and showing him around my neck of the woods, or better yet, mountainous forests. It was a great morning with terrific company.
Life is good.

This was a lifer for me, so thanks for that!
Magical….
Lovely, I have so many in the yard this year.
He is most adorably disheveled. 😍
The excitement of a visiting birder can be contagious. They came from far and wide to see the rosy-finches at Sandia Crest in New Mexico when I was a volunteer there.
Your blog is playing tricks on me. I commented and hit publish and it said it was a duplicate comment. I can’t see any comment so I am trying again.
I am a little jealous and love seeing this absolute charmer you were able to share with your friend.
What an absolute beauty to be able to share.
