I meant to share this photo of a Drake Redhead diving weeks ago. but when the loons arrived at my local pond, I completely forgot that I had processed it. I’m not forgetting it again today.
Drake Redhead in a dive – Nikon D500, tripod mounted, f7.1, 1/1600, ISO 500, +0.7 EV, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
This redhead drake and its mate were swimming in front of me and my friend, Shane Smith, when it started to dive beneath the surface of the water.
I liked everything about this Redhead image. The series of images I took of this diving duck were all wonderful, but this particular photo stood out due to the reflection and the freeze-frame action.
Just a duck being a duck.
Life is good.

Terrific shot! You caught the movement of the Drake just before he took the plunge and still maintained perfect eye contact. That’s amazing! Thanks Mia.
What a fabulous moment in time! I really like the movement of the water around Mr. Drake’s bum. The front of the duck and his reflection makes me think of Narcissus.
I am so glad that you didn’t forget this image for any longer. Stunning.
Beautiful, the redhead couple was so fun to watch.
Beautiful photos as usual.
