At the end of April I spent the morning photographing birds at my local pond. This peek-a-boo Osprey was one of my favorites images from that day. Yesterday I saw an Osprey flying high in the sky and it reminded me of this photo.
Peek-a-boo Osprey in flight – Nikon D500, tripod mounted, f7.1, 1/1250, ISO 640, +1.3 EV, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
I guess I could wish that the Osprey had been closer to me, but I don’t. I like this photo just the way it is.
The Osprey had been fishing in the pond while trying to evade several very territorial Caspian Terns and agitated Red-winged Blackbirds. When I looked at this peek-a-boo Osprey, it was as if the fish hawk was trying to figure out if it was safe to resume hunting for breakfast.
I know the Osprey was safe with me. I only wanted to photograph it, but the other birds? Yeah, I wouldn’t have let down my guard either.
Life is good.

Great pic. How on earth did you catch that eye? Thanks Mia.
How I wish I could fly…
What a fun shot! I can see why you like it so much. 🙂
