The heavy snowpack is still making it impossible for me to get into the mountains to photograph birds like this male American Goldfinch in breeding plumage.
Male American Goldfinch in spring – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/1000, ISO 500, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
I took this goldfinch photo two years ago today high in the Wasatch Mountains in Morgan County. The finch was perched on a hawthorn branch that had already started to leaf out.
I miss being up in the mountains. Hopefully the snow melt this spring won’t cause damage to any of the roads I use when I am in them.
I keep wondering what trees and shrubs are leafing out, if the spring migrants have arrived, and how long it will be before I can visit them all.
Time will tell.
Life is good.

That is one vibrantly colored bird! Thank you, Mia!
I hope you can get into the mountains again soon. In the interim I am grateful for the photos from earlier years. Thank you.
Beautiful photos!
