Flatbud Prickly Poppy – Faded beauty – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/1600, ISO 640, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
This morning I am keeping this fading Flatbud Prickly Poppy post short and sweet for two simple reasons.
- I have been having internet connection issues for sometime now and it has been extremely frustrating. Okay, it has been more than frustrating. My patience has been tried.
- It has been five days since I have been in the field due to clouds in the mornings and I am heading to some place where there are birds and joy as soon as I can this morning. I need and deserve it.
Last week while I was in the West Desert I saw several blooming clumps of Flatbud Prickly Poppies. When I found one close to the road I stopped to take photos of it. Both of the blooms on the plant were a little faded but I still saw the beauty in them. The golden light of dawn made them glow and seem even more beautiful.
Life is good.

Gorgeous — and so different from our California Poppies.
Truly beautiful. I hope that as I type you are out in the field and that you return to find your internet woes are gone.
Our local Mexican Pricklypoppy appears similar except for its yellow color. The flower petals remind me of paper Mache.
Have a good, relaxing outing!
Yup, the internet connections and face book problems drive us up the wall! I did not know that those flowers are a Poppy. Not sure if they grow in my area, but now I will know what they are. Thanks for the information.
Yes, you do deserve to be out in the field with all the frustrations you are having & for all the work you put into doing this blog. Well deserved!
Love the warm light and velvety smooth petals. Hate that you’re having problems. Thanks for all you do.
