Male American Goldfinch and a bright blue sky – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/2000, ISO 640, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
Today I am keeping my post short and simple with a male American Goldfinch in his breeding plumage perched high above a Wasatch Mountain creek. This image was taken last week.
It is the simplicity of this image that appeals most to me. Just a bird on a stick in front of green mountain tops and a bright blue sky. Even though the goldfinch is small in the frame his bright yellow plumage grabs my attention.
I could wish that the goldfinch had been closer but it is what is was and I like it just as it is.
There are lots of American Goldfinches in the mountains right now. I am hearing their flight calls way more often than I am seeing them. American Goldfinches are late breeders and it won’t be long before they will start to nest.
I am in need of a nature fix today. Perhaps I will see more American Goldfinches on the wing.
Life is good.

Another truly stunning shot. The balanced colors are beautiful and the composition is terrific. Thanks Mia.
Beautiful – and I hope you get that much needed nature fix.
