Today marks seven years of daily posts for me here at On The Wing Photography. Another year has gone by and another milestone has been reached.
Fluffy Vesper Sparrow near a ranch pond – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/2500, ISO 500, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
That is two thousand five hundred fifty-seven days of posting birds, wildlife, landscapes, flowers and other things I find in my travels. I did have a slight interruption last month when my site was down for two days due to circumstances beyond my control. I made up for those two days and I am back on track.
I have actually been posting here at On The Wing Photography since January 15, 2010. So far I have written 3,991 posts which have covered my journeys into the field and the amazing things that I find using my eyes, ears, skills and knowledge.
The Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing drought here in Utah
I haven’t traveled as far from home as I did prior to the pandemic. Finding birds has become more difficult due at least in part to the extreme drought conditions we have had here in Utah. Climate change is also affecting the locations that I travel to when I am looking for subjects to photograph.
This past year I have continued to study the behaviors of the birds and other wildlife that I find and I’ve photographed some fascinating behaviors. My knowledge and my skills have grown with every experience I have in the field.
Last August I found one rarity in the field which was a Northern Waterthrush high in the Wasatch Mountains. Had I not been patient and willing to use my sit and wait approach I would never have seen or photographed that bird. This year I plan on sitting and waiting more often. I have found some great birds using that approach.
I don’t know what the next year will gift me with but I do know that being out in nature is where I feel the most at home. Stay tuned for more posts from me at On The Wing Photography!
Life is good.
Mia
P.S., I photographed this adult Vesper Sparrow two days ago near a ranch pond in Box Elder County.
Well done! You’ve brought knowledge and beauty to my world every day. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the next 7 years. Thanks Mia.
BTW – Great shot! I love the tight detail in the sparrow and the contrasting textures are incredible. Thanks again.
Amazing Mia!
Thank you!
This an awesome accomplishment if one only considers the perseverance that was required. Now add the knowledge contained about the birds and their habitat in the daily posts, the skills required to locate and identify the birds described each day, and those necessary to capture the wonderful images presented. The overused word awesome is inadequate to describe what you have done. I am sure you know your audience is grateful for your effort and dedication.
Congratulations on 7 years! So grateful to you for your blog, Mia! ❤️
Thank you for all you do, I really enjoy your posts with beautiful photos and wonderful knowledge and insight.
I’m so grateful you share your extraordinary finds in nature with us!
Thank you. I am endlessly grateful for your dedication and your skill.
Congratulations to you. I sure think it is great you can do this every day. I sure could not keep up the pace. I view every day, but don’t always comment on your beautiful pictures of nature and animals. Keep it up my friend and enjoy each day.
Wow, 7 years! You are an inspiration to me & I have learned so much. Here’s to the next 7+ years! Thank you! Life is good!
I admire your dedication, I have problems just getting photos posted daily to FB, much less keeping a blog.
Thank you for your dedication. Do know how much it means to your audience.
Congratulations on your amazing milestone! Four Thousand posts is just around the corner! I hope you guys it some rain pretty soon.
Ken
Keep up the good work! I may not comment often but I look at your postings everyday, Thanks
Thank you for your years and years of dedication and letting us see what you see!!
That is fantastic! Many thanks for sharing your images they are wonderful!
Congratulations on this milestone! That is one big heap of commitment and passion and I’m simply grateful that you are able and willing to share them with us. I too find the sit and wait approach very productive. Plus, just sitting and taking in the natural world around us is the very best stress reliever and, I believe, character builder known to us.
You may or may not realize how important your daily gifts are to people. All of us thank you for the constant reminder of the beauty around us. It reminds us to stop and take some time to breath it all in.
Thank you for your daily posts. As an amiture wood carver your pictures have provided me better insight for bird posture and habitat. Very much appreciated.
Congratulations. Your postings are always a bright spot in my day. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and photographs so generously.
Mia, thank you for sharing your art with me. I view every posting. Sincerely, Bob
Congratulations! That is quite an accomplishment
