American Herring Gull walking on ice at Bear River MBR – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/2500, ISO 500, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
Last week I photographed this American Herring Gull walking in ice from the auto tour loop at Bear River MBR on a bright but chilly sunny morning. There weren’t a lot of gulls on the ice that morning so I was happy when this one stuck around long enough for me to photograph it.
I only see American Herring Gulls in northern Utah during the coldest part of the year. When the American Herring Gulls are here I attempt to photograph them whenever I can. I find them at Bear River MBR and Farmington Bay WMA most often but these large gulls can be found in other areas of the state.
I want to be able to take more American Herring Gull photos this winter before they take off for their breeding grounds which will be soon. I probably only have two or three more weeks before they migrate. As soon as the weather here clears up I plan on being out in the field looking for them.
I have been having server issues this (yesterday) morning which is why this post is now much later than normal.
Life is good. On that note two nights ago I found out that a dear friend of mine passed away in Cozumel, Mexico recently due to an accident. I will miss you Yura.
