Hooded Merganser and autumn reflections – Nikon D810, f7.1, 1/1250, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
This morning I am sharing a simple image of a Hooded Merganser I found two days ago on a pond at Farmington Bay WMA that had autumn colors reflected on the water. Hooded Mergansers do not breed in northern Utah but will often migrate here for the winter. This bird marks the earliest that I personally have found a Hooded Merganser in Utah.
The Hooded Merganser was fairly far from the road and she is small in the frame but the reason I liked this merganser photo was because of the autumn colors reflected on the water at the top of the image.
Yesterday UPS delivered my Nikon D500 which I had sent to Nikon in California to be repaired. The mirror had been sticking in the upright position intermittently and that was a problem because I know I missed some shots because of that sticking mirror.
I debated on getting a new camera body but decided to get the one I had repaired. Total cost of the shutter mechanism being replaced was $321.53 tax included. Nikon also cleaned the sensor, the outside of the camera body, replaced the rubber grips, and checked various other parts of the camera. My D500 looked brand new when I removed it from the packaging. I had over 621,000 clicks on the old shutter when I sent it in. I am very much looking forward to using the D500 again.
Life is good.

Simple IS good this morning — what a lovely shot. Wishing you many, many clicks with your newly repaired Nikon! 🙂
Autumn is one of my favourite times of year – and this shot captures the colours beautifully.
I am very, very glad that you have your D500 back again.
