Snowy Egret preening at Farmington Bay – Nikon D810, f7.1, 1/4000, ISO 500, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
I liked these Snowy Egret photos because of the contrast of the bird’s stark white plumage against the deep blue of the sky reflected on the water. Both images were taken four days ago at Farmington Bay WMA in the early morning hours. The egret had flown in close to the shoreline near where I sat in a mobile blind photographing Barn Swallows.
For a change the air wasn’t smoky that morning so the blue of the sky looked marvelous reflected on the water.

The Snowy Egret didn’t stay at this location long but it was long enough for me to take a nice series of images of it before it called at an egret flying past and took off in flight.
Life is good.

I love the color balance you achieved in the without losing the detail in the Egrets feathers. Just amazing skill. Thanks Mia.
