Savannah Sparrow in Summit County – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/800, ISO 500, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
Earlier this week I photographed this adult Savannah Sparrow just outside the town of Kamas, Utah before heading up into the Uinta Mountains. I was looking for other birds along the side of the road when this small sparrow caught my eyes perched on an old wooden fence post in the early morning light.
I like the simplicity of this photo. Just the Savannah Sparrow, an old wooden post with green grasses in the background.
While I photographed this sparrow I could hear the songs of other Savannah Sparrows nearby in the spring grasses.
This sparrow didn’t stay on the post long and I was itching to head up into the Uinta Mountains but I still enjoyed having it in my viewfinder.
Life is good.

Lovely!
What a gloriously posed little charmer.
That bird snd the ost it’s sitting on look sonright together…
Beautiful little brown bird and nice use of the empty space in your composition.
I should have added, in view of Liz’s comment, that I have not seen this species here in our south Florida wetlands for the past two winters. They were normally fairly common and sometimes numerous during the previous winters.
I used to see a lot of Savannah Sparrows just outside of town but have been seeing fewer & fewer these last years. I have only seen one this year so far. Sad.
Those Yellow Lore’s are a “dead giveaway”! We had one a week ago, but couldn’t get my camera on it before it decided to leave.
