Snow-topped Stansbury Mountains in February – Nikon D810, f9, 1/1250, ISO 500, Nikkor 18-200mm at 35mm, natural light
Some days start off the wrong way and when they do I look for things that soothe me. Views of mountains calm me down so today I am sharing a simple view of some West Desert mountains.
When I booted my computer this morning there was an error on one of the drives so Windows 10 decided to scan and repair that drive which it does at a snail’s pace. Anyone who has had that scan occur knows exactly how dreadfully slow it goes. While the scan was running I couldn’t get to the files that I wanted to share today on my computer. The files weren’t on my lap top, smart phone, or tablet so I was stuck waiting and waiting some more. I sat here thinking it might be 9 am before I could publish a post.
Then the scan got stuck at 22% of the volume of the drive. It just would not move past 22%.
Since the scan wouldn’t move forward I decided to risk it, shut my computer down hard, waited 10 seconds, and then turned my computer back on. It worked. My computer booted normally. By then I had wasted more than an hour watching that scan on my screen. I’ll scan the offending drive manually later today.
I knew I had taken a short series of photos of the West Desert Mountains back in February so I dipped into the files of that folder and processed this image because this view calms me.
While I processed this photo I thought about the many times I have seen this view, the quietness I find in the West Desert, and the gifts of nature.
Life is good even when it throws you a curve ball before the sun comes up.

Beautiful capture Mia
Thanks, Mia, for reminding me of the beautiful vistas I used to see when my husband and I lived at Dugway. Aside from worrying about rabbits and free-roaming cows, we enjoyed our comings/goings that afforded us this view and others like it. Sure do miss the bird life and other wildlife of that part of Utah. People are often surprised when I tell him how prolific it is.
Such a beautiful landscape shot. 💜
Hi, enjoyed looking at your West Desert Mountains. They are very pretty. I am sometimes afraid to turn my computer off, as it will really screw up for me. Never know for sure.
Hi sweetie! This is a beautiful look at the whole photo could relax me, too I was early at doctors and I put my head down to relax and was thinking of all the places we went to when I was out there with you! Our minds were in tune again this morning! love ya’s
I do hope that your ‘puter problems are now done and dusted. Thank you for that truly magnificent panorama.
Beautiful panorama, sorry about the glitch this morning. It seems the old stand by of “Have you tried turning it of and back on again…..” I wish I had a similar switch to me!
You are so right there April. If I had that switch it would be in frequent use.
What a beautiful scene to look at as you are driving on that road. Wow!
Thanks for sharing these beautiful West Desert shots today Mia! I have been anxiously waiting for the opportunity to safely travel back to your beautiful state – it’s been too long. Your photos brought me joy as I recognized some spots and am looking forward to gently exploring more in the future.
