Ring-billed Gull walking in a snowy whiteout – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/800, ISO 640, +1.7 EV, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
My post from yesterday, “Green-tailed Towhees – He? She? It?“, was long so I decided to keep today’s post short and sweet.
I also decided that I wanted to post something that felt cool because the heat here in northern Utah is getting to me. Typically I only do one post during the summer where I share images from cooler days to remind myself that winter isn’t really all that far away but the high temps here have felt unrelenting so I am doing another one of those posts today.
I took this photo of a Ring-billed Gull walking through the snow in whiteout conditions on December 30, 2019 at a pond not far from where I live. I enjoy creating and looking at high key images like this one and the snowy conditions in the frame make me feel cooler just by looking at the photo.
Life is good. Stay safe.

“Cool” shot, and art if you ask me.
HUGE thanks for this image.
I may come back to it when we are deep in the sweaty season.
That gull looks coooold, poor thing.
Thank you for the snowy respite. SoCal has been flirting with triple digits and high humidity recently. Heck, it’s gone beyond flirting — they’ve gotten a room!
Another great shot! Perfect post for today.
It is amazing the extremes they survive in without shelter.
We are having cooler temps today after thunderstorms yesterday. A very welcome change. I hope you can get some relief soon.
Thanks for the snowy respite!
