Spring Least Chipmunk on an old wooden fence, Wasatch Mountains, Morgan County, UtahSpring Least Chipmunk on an old wooden fence – Nikon D500, f6.3, 1/2000, ISO 1600, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light

It was supposed to be mostly sunny yesterday morning but it sure wasn’t bright or sunny up in the Wasatch Mountains while I was there looking for birds and animals to photograph. Most of the time there were dark clouds overhead and at times a drizzle of rain fell but I didn’t let that stop me or dampen my spirits. I found birds and I found a few chipmunks as well.

I miss seeing Least Chipmunks during the winter and I always get excited when I see and photograph them for the first time in spring. This Least Chipmunk was running along the rails of an old wooden fence and when it stopped for a rest on a fence post I was ready.

My ISO was high because I had photographed Belted Kingfishers mating and Sandhills Cranes earlier in the morning when the light was even more drab and gray.

I’m very much looking forward to photographing the chipmunks I find this year. They always amuse and delight me and I adore having them in my viewfinder.

Life is good. Stay safe.

Mia
