Canada Goose resting on ice – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/1250, ISO 500, +1.0 EV, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
Yesterday I shared a photo of a Bald Eagle resting on the icy marsh at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and this morning I am sharing a Canada Goose doing exactly the same thing. This Canada Goose image was taken about four minutes prior to the Bald Eagle image and in nearly the same location. The goose was substantially closer to me than the eagle was.
I know, it is “just” a goose and quite often they aren’t seen as appealing as the eagle on the ice. That isn’t true for me.
If it is a wild bird, I’ll stop to photograph it. It is as simple as that.
Besides, I think this Canada Goose is just as lovely resting on the snow and frost covered ice of the marsh in the early morning light as the Bald Eagle was.
Life is good.

After a busy day yesterday fixing a someone’s crashing web site while having issues with my own where some of my featured images with the word “hidden” in the title of the photo aren’t visible my portfolios pages after a theme update I am a little frazzled this morning. I’m a geek and I will figure it out. It’s what I do.
Great photo, Mia
There is nothing ‘just’ about any bird.
Really, when you look at a Canada Goose, they are quite a beautiful bird. And anything that flies so far during migration gets my respect, despite the negative reputation.
