Adult Snow Goose in December – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/5000, ISO 640, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
Usually by this time in December I’ve seen at least one Snow Goose to photograph but so far this year I haven’t found one yet. Granted, I haven’t been out looking for birds much this December partly because of bad weather and being physically under the weather too. With just a few days left in December I’m not sure if I will find a Snow Goose to photograph before the end of this year.
Snow Geese begin migrating back towards their breeding grounds before too long and they arrive in large numbers in Delta, Utah by mid February. I’ve never gone down to Delta when the Snow Geese are there and perhaps this is the year I ought to make the trip down to photograph them.
Until then I will be looking for Snow Geese at my local ponds, at Farmington Bay WMA, Bear River MBR and the skies overhead.
Life is good.

I hope the weather and you improve mightily.
And love this serene image.
You should go to Delta or Bosque del Apache. I was thinking of going again to Delta this year. Should we meet up? I will probably spend the night so I can get sunrise and sunset.
Beautiful, contemplative shot. Lovely. A blizzard of Snow Geese sounds about right. 🙂
Hope you are feeling better now. It is nice to see a snow goose and they have an impressive life span, I remember you had some amazing photos of flocks filling the sky. Here’s to Happy Shooting in the New Year.
I am a bird watcher myself. Being 82 years I can understand your interest in them.
I really like the pictures and and the comments. I don’t have the equipment to take pictures these but i like yours. Do you sell copies of the pictures? rlewisphillips@gmail.com
