Immature Red-tailed Hawk in early autumn – Nikon D500, f9, 1/640, ISO 500, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light, not baited
The first bird I found a few days ago in the Wasatch Mountains was an immature Red-tailed Hawk perched in an evergreen where the trees in the distance displayed autumn’s colors.
There is nothing really special about the photo, just a young hawk hanging around in a tree.
But…
I have to wonder though how many people walked or drove right past this young Red-tailed Hawk and never noticed that it was even there because they were lost in thought, talking on or reading something on their phones, or just not focused on the wonders of nature that surround them.
If I had a super power, the super power I’d wish for is the ability to connect people to the sights, sounds, smells and wonders of nature that they simply don’t pay attention to. Why?
Because we can’t live without a healthy planet.
Life is our one chance to see it all.

I am constantly amazed at how many of the things which fill me with awe and wonder simply don’t enter into other people’s consciousness. And how I would love your eagle eyes.
Yes, there are so many small discoveries waiting for those who are attentive as you are!
Nature is amazing…
I’m with you on wishing I had the same super power!
I wish we both had it, I wish there were an army of us with it to waken those who need to be woke.
You do have that super power Mia
Tim, then I wish it were strong enough to reach those who need to know it the most but there are people who ignore what nature is telling us and those who while out in nature have their faces glued to a phone.
This bit of nature every morning is a blessing for which I thank you.
It is my pleasure Evelyn.
Envy, envy, envy – what a great day you had with this fellow!
