Perky Yellow-rumped Warbler – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/1250, ISO 640, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
The gate past Goose Egg Island at Farmington Bay WMA is now open and I enjoyed being back out there looking for birds yesterday morning in the bright morning light. It was a delightful change of pace to be back at the WMA to photograph birds because I haven’t been past the gate since March and there were plenty of birds to see.
For a few brief moments yesterday morning I had a lovely Yellow-rumped Warbler in my viewfinder at Farmington Bay that had perched in a leafy tree and I took full advantage of it being nearby. The setting may be a little messy but the warbler stands out from the habitat beautifully. I could have done without the out of focus leaves in front of the branch on the right hand side but they were there along with the bird so I made the best of it.
Migrating Yellow-rumped Warbler perched in a leafy tree – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/1600, ISO 640, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
I cropped this photo vertically and that reduced the impact of the out of focus leaves on the right hand side. The warbler flew away not long after I took this image.
Yellow-rumped Warblers are on the move and I hope to see and photograph more of them before they migrate out of my area.
Life is good.

I would like to photograph one in breeding plumage, I only see them in the fall when the striking colors are gone.
Yet another charmer. Many thanks.
So nice to see a little butter butt! 🙂
He’s perfect Mia and so is your photography. If we could all be as peaceful as the warbler, resting on the branch in the sunshine. Today brings much needed rains, so yes, life is good. 🙂
