Side by side immature Turkey Vultures – Nikon D500, f9, 1/320, ISO 640, +0.3 EV, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light, not baited
I don’t have many decent photos of immature Turkey Vultures so when I spotted several of them 11 days ago in northern Utah I was excited but my hopes for good light on the hatch year birds were dashed by clouds. Even though the light didn’t cooperate I took images of the young Turkey Vultures because I knew that they’d be migrating soon.
I liked that there were a pair of side by side immature Turkey Vultures on the lichen-covered rocks that stuck around for quite a while.

Other immature Turkey Vultures were resting nearby and I took photos of them too despite the poor light simply because they were there and I hoped that some of the photos would meet my expectations.

I’m okay with these three images and the rest of the photos I took are going to get moved over to the delete bin. The next time I see a bunch of immature Turkey Vultures together I hope I have better light.
Life is good.

What cute (yes, I find TVs cute 😉 ) youngsters! This may not be your preferred light, but you sure were able to make the most of it! Wonderful feather detail!
Hooray for vultures. And lichen.
17 years…that sounds like a long time for a bird. I thought that was ironic, a “meal” of vultures. It looks like good detail to me, and I have a fondness for lichen.
