Adult White-crowned Sparrow perched in rabbitbrush in Northern Utah – Nikon D500, f7.1, 1/3200, ISO 640, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
Sometimes the colors of in a photo I have taken are what pleases me and draws me in even if my subject is small in the frame, in this case my subject was an adult White-crowned Sparrow. The bright yellows of the blooming rabbitbrush in the background along with the almost inquisitive pose of the sparrow are enough to keep me looking at this photo. I have taken plenty of other White-crowned Sparrow photos where the birds fill the frame, in this case the colors of the background are what are more dominant.
I don’t see many White-crowned Sparrows during the summer months but about this time of the year they start to move down to the valleys from higher elevations so I should be seeing more of them soon. I photographed this sparrow last September in Box Elder County on the last full day of summer. Can’t wait to photograph these sparrows again.
Life is good.

Love the sparrow AND the frame.
Yes, nice blurred background to complement the sparrow in sharp focus.
Love the image and the colors.
