Antelope Island with a winter view of the Great Salt Lake – Nikon D810, f11, 1/2500, ISO 500, +0.3 EV, Nikkor 18-200mm VR at 18mm, natural light
The heat here in the Salt Lake Valley has been getting to me so when my friend, artist and photographer, Mark Perry posted some images of Bear River MBR during the winter yesterday his photos helped me to remember that in time this heat will move on, fall will arrive and winter will make an appearance soon after. Cooler weather will come but for now we just have to get through the high temps.
I thought of some of the photos I have taken of the Great Salt Lake during the winter from Antelope Island State Park and while looking through them I decided to share these images taken on March 4, 2018 of the snow, lake, clouds, sky, shoreline and mountains in the distance.
I also realized I haven’t been taking as many landscape images as I used to and that I need to go back to doing that again.

I live in such a beautiful state and even though birds are my primary focus as subjects the natural world that surrounds me is endlessly fascinating, stunning and I hope I never lose the sense of wonder I feel when I see it.
I know cooler weather is ahead and these photos are reminders of that.
Life is good.

LOve those of the winter shots! love mom
We are getting the autumn colours now at Elk Island National Park and a bit in the city of Edmonton, Alberta. It has been a very wet, cool summer but I am grateful we missed the extreme heat that other people got. It is cooling down fast some days, with temperatures down to 42 degrees Fahrenheit, even 37.4. Then you posted your photos and it was a good reminder that it can still be beautiful. I just hope we get some fine fall days for some time yet. The birds are leaving, and I feel a little lonely, but saw 3 broods of Ruddy Ducklings yesterday, Pied-billed Grebes, a couple of gaggles of geese and the reappearance of the Black -capped Chickadees as they come out of molt!
Just glorious.
Our winter is drawing to an end, and I am dreading the onset of the sweaty season.
Beautiful images, many thanks for sharing. The contrast between you all in the West and middle US and us in the East is significant, not to mention AK. In the middle 70’s in middle VT.
Beautiful!
Sounds amazing! I’m glad to know camping is allowed.
Tim, all of the campsites have spectacular views. Wouldn’t advise camping on the island during the biting gnat (no-see-um) season, can start in late April to early may and run until the temps are in the mid 90’s for several days in a row. They can suck the life out of you, not literally, but they are so annoying that you feel miserable.
Beautiful scenery. It’s 52 degrees here in the Niagara area at 7:45 am and only going up to 72 today.
Liz, those temps sound wonderful! I haven’t been to your area since I was 14, I should try to get there again.
