Snowy Canada Geese near the Jordan River – Nikon D500, f9, 1/640, ISO 400, Nikkor 500mm VR, natural light
It has been snowing here since last night and it is wonderful to see this much snow on the ground, this is the heaviest snowfall I have had here at home this entire winter. I went outside and measured the snow on top of my Jeep and there is slightly over 8 inches on the hood and my Jeep is in a sheltered location, there appears to be about one foot in locations that aren’t as protected. The sun isn’t up yet as I write this and the snow is still coming down, in fact it is supposed to snow all day so who knows what the final snowfall here at home will be.
This pair of Canada Geese were photographed last winter near the Jordan River close to where I live at the tail end of a storm similar to the storm occurring right now.
I am hoping to get to the local ponds after the sun comes up to see what I can photograph there but I don’t want to go much further this morning because there are going to be tons of accidents on the roads today. Maybe this afternoon I will venture farther from home.
Snow! – February 6, 2019
I love snow and I’m glad to see so much on the ground. I took this photo a while ago that shows my Jeep and the street using my cell phone.
I can’t wait for the sun to rise so I can get out in the snow!
Life is good.

Love the snow scenes but now need to settle for them from afar, as we sold our Chicagoland condo this spring. BTW, how did you get those geese to pose so nicely?
Yippee snow day, it is beautiful out there. I spent 2 hours out playing it the stuff, I am cold and wet and happy! Our road is not plowed so I don’t think I can drive to get my son to work at 2pm. If I can I might stop by one of the parks and see how the geese are handling this deep snow fall.
Those images are incredible (though the snow fills me with jealous).
Stay safe, stay warm – and have fun.
We in Southern Ontario had that snow last week. Today we have freezing rain. It is a skating rink out there.
Be safe Liz. I know how bad ice storms can be.
A Christmas Eve morning ice storm in 1998 got me back into photography, I was grateful for that but that ice storm caused substantial damage where I lived back then.
I no longer receive pictures. What gives?
