Bear River MBR winter snow and heavy fog – Nikon D810, f8, 1/500, +1.0 EV, Nikkor 18-200mm VR at 26mm, natural light
So… I did get out into the field yesterday but heavy fog got in the way of being able to see birds and the great scenery I know I could see at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. Being there reminded me of three years ago when Jolie Gordon and myself went to the refuge after a reported Snowy Owl sighting except that yesterday it wasn’t snowing like it was that February morning, it was just as foggy though. Really, really foggy.
I did see a few birds through the fog but the photos weren’t worth keeping, not even the images that I took of a Barn Owl who appeared to be wet from all of the moisture hanging in the air.
Still, it was nice to be out on the refuge and I enjoyed the quiet but foggy views from the auto tour route.
Life is good.

Quiet and cold and utterly beautiful. Sweet shot. Thanks Mia.
Beautiful photo. I like the refuge in all weather.
Plenty of sun and blue sky down south.
I know this isn’t the kind of shot you usually aim for, but I like it very much. EC hit the nail on the head: serene beauty, and I’ll add: a little mysterious. 🙂
I can’t tell you how much that cool and serene beauty means to me, mired in the sweaty season. Megathanks.
Beautiful shot! Re Barn Owls, they are surprisingly emotional and have muscles to control facial expressions – as described by Stacey O’Brien in her book about an injured, un-releasable Barn Owl, Wesley the Owl: The Remarkable Love Story of an Owl and His Girl
